Fearless, confident and ambitious are three words that are commonly used to describe Rania Benchegra. She was born in Marrakech, Morocco and raised in the Old Medina neighborhood.
While in high school she was spotted by a model scout, but chose to complete high school. After high school she completed her foundation year at university and went on to study cinema. Her goal was to work behind the camera. An accomplished student of languages, she speaks six languages: Arabic, English, Berber, French, Portuguese and Italian. She eventually moved to the US and signed with Elite New York.
This past May, Vogue launched Open Casting, a global modeling initiative aimed at discovering new talent that reflect the world we live in. Models were encouraged to send in their photos, and they received more than 60,000 submissions. Rania was amongst the eight models chosen by a judging committee which included casting directors Piergiorgio del Moro & Samuel Ellis Scheinman, Instagram's director of fashion partnerships Eva Chen and Vogue editors from around world. Prestigious fashion photographer Charlotte Wales photographed Rania with the other Open Casting winners for her American Vogue editorial debut in the magazine's October 2023 issue. In September, Rania made her runway debut at Vogue's 'Vogue World' show in London.
Rania told Vogue that this work and these skills serve a higher purpose for her: “This wasn’t just about fulfilling a dream. It was a fierce determination to shatter stereotypes and empower us to embrace our identities unapologetically.”
Her greatest commitment is the work she does as an ambassador for, LEAD Edu. Through this nonprofit, she works to provide the youth of Morocco the education, support, and resources needed to empower future leaders. Rania’s mission is to be a role model for Arab women, specifically inspiring other children from Morocco to shoot for the same big dreams that she did.
Boasting an Instagram following of 153,000, Rania’s star is undeniably bright. Outside of modelling and philanthropy, her passions are hiking, beach volleyball, and surfing. Costa Rica is her favorite surfing location; she is happiest when in the water. She currently resides in New York.
